CompBBQUK is dedicated to making competition barbecue more accessible and increasing participation. Barbecue contests are a fantastic spectacle and are a great addition to many events big and small. We offer various contests and services to fit your requirements perfectly.
Having a CompBBQUK contest means you can use ready made and proven contest structures, judging process and rules and procedures that ensure the contests credibility. It also gives you access to our support, tools and direct access to a community of people enthusiastic about competition barbecue.
We can organise and manage contests that include our own sanctioned contests, or are sanctioned by other organisations. If you want a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) contest, or Steak Cookoff Association (SCA), we are delighted to work with these organisations and manage their contests, either alongside our own sanctioned contests, or stand alone.
A CompBBQUK sanctioned Champion Series contest puts a flexible structure around your barbecue competition. This means that the contest is flexible enough to be customised to your requirements, but also structured enough that it is consistent and is subject to the same high standard judging and scoring process to ensure it has the prestige and credibility required.
CompBBQUK does two things in relation to contests. Firstly is organises and manages contests. This is independent of the type of contest and includes the pre-event organisation and on the day management of the event. A contest managed by CompBBQUK does not have to include a CompBBQUK sanctioned contest, it can include contests sanctioned by other sanctioning bodies either instead, or as well as.
Secondly, CompBBQUK provides an established and proven contest structure, rules and processes for our types of contests which includes our Champion Series contest structure. The process of providing this contest structure and ensuring the contest adheres to it is called "sanctioning". Contests sanctioned by CompBBQUK and other sanctioning bodies can be part of the same overall contest and all can be part of a CompBBQUK manage contest
CompBBQUK will work with you on requirements and organise the contest for you. Then run the overall contest for you
We provide you with the contest structure, rules and processes for your contest. Then we will run the contest on your behalf on the day(s)
You provide the space and infrastructure, and we will organise the contest on your behalf. We will work with you to agree the details of the contest. You will be able to input in to the type of contest, the round types other aspects of the contest.
It is normal to charge teams an entry fee in to the contest, and while we encourage accessibility through minimised costs for teams, we understand the required infrastructure will come at a cost to you. So we will work with you to estimate the overall cost of the contest and agree the entry fee for teams.
We can also work with you to look at sponsorship either financially or through donation of prizes to support the contest.
We will work with you up front to let you know exactly what is required, as it will often depend on the type of contest. As a rule the following will be required.
Prizes - All good contests need prizes and trophies for the winners. We can work with you to agree the best way to source and provide these.
The only upfront cost for a CompBBQUK sanctioned contest is a deposit on agreement to hold the contest, there may be some other upfront costs if the contest has elements that are sanctioned by an alternative organisation.
CompBBQUK is a non-profit business that aims to make taking part in competition barbecue as accessible as possible. As such we minimise our costs as much as possible and any funds we make go back in to running the organisation and promoting competition barbecue. No money is taken out of CompBBQUK to pay for working time, all time to run the organisation and organise contests is volunteered by the founders and others who support it.

We will support you in publicising your contest through our channels and do what we can, but you will be responsible for sourcing teams and judges for your contest. It will be up to you to decide on any entry fee, source sponsorship and organise prizes and trophies.
