We get amazing support from our good friends and all around legends at Weber and they have come up trumps yet again to support us and new teams getting involved in barbecue competitions.

Essentially a cooking competition specifically focussed on outdoor cooking, barbecue and grilling over fire and smoke. If you rate your barbecue and outdoor cooking skills, or just want to take part for fun. This will be an amazing weekend.
Two separate contests, one each day of Beefstock 2026, each contested over three rounds. To find first The Grand Champion of "The Freestyle Boy" contest on the Saturday, then The Grand Champion of "The Beefy BBQ Boy" contest on the Sunday.
Over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of August at Nozstock The Hidden Valley. The contest will be part of the excellent Beefstock Festival from The Beefy Boys
Anyone can enter the contests regardless of skill or experience. If you are a barbecue or outdoor cooking enthusiast, rate your outdoor cooking skills, or just fancy a weekend amongst like minded people, you are welcome at the contest. Teams can consist of one to five people, so get a couple of family or friends and come along, or come alone, the choice is yours.
Each contest will have three rounds, each of those rounds have a specific theme or are based around a specific ingredient along with some rules around what each entry must contain, not contain or how it must be presented. All teams will submit their entries for a round (we call it turning-in) at roughly the same time. The entries will then be scored by a panel of judges against four criteria (Visual Appeal, Flavour, Mouth Feel and Creativity) to get an overall score. The highest score wins the round, and the highest score combined across all three rounds becomes The Grand Champion.
It is a contest where each round has loose restrictions on what each entry should be. These maybe around the number of components, a theme that must be adhered to or use of a specific ingredient. It may also prescribe how the entry can be presented. But ultimately freestyle competition's are about allowing teams to show their creativity.
The official round and contest results will be produced using an official judging panel made of experienced barbecue contest judges and some guest judges. They will score to the CompBBQUK Champion Series scoring system and processes.
Additionally for two of the rounds during each contest, there will be a separate public judging panel which will produce "public choice" results.
We always aim to make taking part in barbecue competitions affordable. To that end we have kept entry the fee as low as possible to cover the costs of the event and set it at £170

We invite judges applications from KCBS, SCA or previous CompBBQUK judges for this contest. We aim to not over subscribe judges so only release the number that matches our requirements based on the expected number of teams taking part. If there are no remaining judges places when you try to register, we will operate a reserve list. So please contact us or drop us an email at getintouch@compbbquk.com to be added to the reserve list.
Please reach us at getintouch@compbbquk.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We encourage everyone and anyone to take part. A wide array of people take part in barbecue competitions, from chefs to youth groups and everything in between. The majority of cooks and teams are enthusiastic amateurs, keen back garden barbecuers who want to test their ideas and skills against others.
The barbecue competition community is incredibly welcoming and supportive, always happy to lend a hand or offer some advice. For many it is as much about the social aspect as it is the competition.
You will need to bring your own equipment and ingredients. You can find information on our page about cooking and competing. The only exception to this is any rounds where the rules dictate that you will be provided with any ingredients. Where possible we try to offer new teams the ability to borrow equipment from us. If that is availiable we will detail on this page.
Initially we are giving priority to teams who want to take part in both days. We may offer individual contest entries at a later date but we do have a limited number of team entries available due to space, so we may not ultimately have ability to offer them.
At this point we do not intend to offer entries to single rounds unfortunatly.
