If you are new to competition barbecue and want to know more about it, then please visit our page here for info. But come back to this page for details specifically about Beefstock Barbecue Championships

We visited the Galtres Pickering Showground and the organiser of Flavour of Yorkshire Festival along with our partners and sponsors Cranswick PLC and Newly Weds Food (as well as Archie, the official contest dog). We were able to look at the site and talk about the plans. Its all shaping up to be a great event in a beautiful part of the country.
We get amazing support from our good friends and all around legends at Weber and they have come up trumps yet again to support us and new teams getting involved in barbecue competitions.
If you are new to barbecue competition it can be daunting to get involved. But no more! We have the perfect opportunity to take part in The Whole Hog BBQ Comp as a new team (teams can be 1 - 5 people).
If you are concerned about not having a decent gazebo, or not enough barbecue capacity, or you are just a new team looking for a bit of support this is the offer for you.
And just like all of the contest teams at the Whole Hog, you will get ALL OF YOUR CONTEST MEAT provided for you (and some other ingredients probably) as part of your entry. Not to mention you will have us on hand before the event to answer any questions you have about the contest. It literally has never been easier or cheaper to get involved in a barbecue contest.
With this entry offer you will get use of:
or (your choice)
Because this offer is supported by Weber, we ask that if you bring additional grills or smokers that they are Weber products. Please contact us if you have questions about this.

The best thing about this contest? All your meat is included in your entry and supplied by our partner, Cranswick.
That means everyone gets the same and it is what you do with it that counts, plus you don't have to worry about sourcing it and paying for it.
Taking place as part of The Flavours of Yorkshire A Food Lovers Festival, it is a cooking competition specifically focussed on outdoor cooking, barbecue and grilling over fire and smoke. If you rate your barbecue and outdoor cooking skills, or just want to take part for fun. This will be an amazing weekend.
The Whole Hog is a contest that celebrates pork. Each round will be focussed on a different cut for each team to decide the best way to cook it and the best dish they can produce.
Over the weekend of the 4th and 5th July at Galtres Pickering Showground, just outside Pickering in North Yorkshire. The contest will take place as part of The Flavours of Yorkshire A Food Lovers Festival.
Anyone can enter the contests regardless of skill or experience. If you are a barbecue or outdoor cooking enthusiast, rate your outdoor cooking skills, or just fancy a weekend amongst like minded people, you are welcome at the contest. Teams can consist of one to five people, so get a couple of family or friends and come along, or come alone, the choice is yours.
The contest will take place over two days and each day there will be three rounds making six rounds in total. All teams will submit their entries for a round (we call it turning-in) at roughly the same time. The entries will then be scored by a panel of judges against four criteria (Visual Appeal, Flavour, Mouth Feel and Creativity) to get an overall score. The highest score wins the round, and the highest score combined across all six rounds becomes The Grand Champion.
It is a contest where each round has loose restrictions on what each entry should be. These maybe around the number of components, a theme that must be adhered to or use of a specific ingredient. It may also prescribe how the entry can be presented. But ultimately freestyle competition's are about allowing teams to show their creativity.
We always aim to make taking part in barbecue competitions affordable. To that end we have kept entry the fee as low as possible to cover the costs of the event and set it at £140 for regular and £165 for our new team special offer entry.

To enter as either regular or new team, go to our entry portal (external web store)

We encourage everyone and anyone to take part. A wide array of people take part in barbecue competitions, from chefs to youth groups and everything in between. The majority of cooks and teams are enthusiastic amateurs, keen back garden barbecuers who want to test their ideas and skills against others.
The barbecue competition community is incredibly welcoming and supportive, always happy to lend a hand or offer some advice. For many it is as much about the social aspect as it is the competition.
If you are entering as a regular team (i.e. not using our new team special offer) you will need to bring your own shelter such as a gazebo, whatever grills, smokers and equipment you need need. You will essentially be allocated a team pitch area for your team setup.
If you are entering using our new team special offer you won't need to worry about a gazebo, and we will have a Weber Master Touch and Weber 47cm Smokey Mountain on site for you. We will also have a table you can use as a work surface. You will need to bring anything else you need in terms of kit and equipment. If you want to bring additional grills, smokers or cookers for use in the contest please check with us prior to the contest as while you are more than welcome to bring additional kit we may just need to work with you on what type if we have any sponsor restrictions.
You can find information on our page about cooking and competing.
This contest is a supplied meat contest, so all of your contest meat will be supplied to you on site (on the Saturday morning). You will not be permitted to substitute other meat for the supplied meat so as to ensure all teams are on a level playing field.
You will need to supply any other ingredients you need to use however. The rules for each round will dictate what each entry must be and you will be free to use whatever other ingredients you need for your entries as long as they confirm to the round requirements.
Unfortunately not, to ensure a level playing field, all teams will be required to take part in all six of the rounds.
There is camping available for teams and judges. We will look to manage the location of camping in relation to the contest to ensure the aesthetic of the overall festival.
The overall event is a large food festival taking place across the weekend called The Flavours of Yorkshire. There is going to be a celebrity chef theatre, many food, craft and other stalls and traders as well as other exhibits. The organisers are expecting over 20,000 visitors across the weekend. As part of the food festival we will be organising the competition and a barbecue demonstration area. The contest will be an attraction for visitors with the judging of rounds talking place in front of the public and teams encouraged to engage the public.
Unlike last year, all teams will be part of the same contest and will take part in all six rounds. Once final team numbers are known we will look to see if we have adequate numbers to make additional awards to new teams in rounds or the overall contest.
The short answer is yes. If you are entering using the offer from Weber, any additional grills or smokers you bring do have to be Weber. We will possibly have a small number of additional Master Touches and Smokey Mountains, but these will be subject to availability.
If you are entering using the other (non Weber) special offer for new teams, you are free to bring whatever additional kit, grills or smokers you require.
